NANOX™ Sound Surface – A New Era of StudioDesk® Design

When we set out to create the FIVE desk, we knew the mechanics would be revolutionary: five independent actuators, three intelligent controllers, infinite possibilities. But for us, design is never just about movement — it’s about sound. That’s where NANOX™ was born.

Why Surface Matters in a Studio

Every producer knows the truth: your room lies to you. Reflections from walls, gear, and yes - even your desk - color what you hear. Most studio furniture is built with shiny lacquer, glossy laminates, or raw wood that looks nice but wreaks havoc on your sound.

The result? Smearing in the mids, comb filtering in the highs, and fatigue during long sessions. It’s subtle, but in mixing, subtle is everything.

Enter NANOX™ – StudioDesk® Proprietary Sound Surface

After years of prototyping, we developed NANOX™, a proprietary matte micro-textured surface engineered to scatter early reflections and reduce unwanted energy bouncing back into your monitoring position.

Instead of glossy reflections, NANOX™ breaks up and diffuses sound waves — giving you:

  • Cleaner mids (where most music lives: vocals, guitars, keys).

  • Truer monitoring with less comb filtering.

  • Reduced fatigue, so you can trust what you hear for longer sessions.

  • A professional feel that’s not only functional but elegant.

It’s not paint. It’s not standard foil. NANOX™ is a custom-engineered finish unique to StudioDesk, available first on the FIVE desk.

Built for Modern Studios

The new NANOX™ is also fingerprint-resistant, scratch-resistant, and low-reflection under studio lights. Whether you’re working 14-hour days, streaming sessions, or shooting video content, your desk surface stays professional and distraction-free.

Why We Created It

StudioDesk has always been about more than furniture — it’s about solving the hidden problems that hold creators back. NANOX™ represents that philosophy: invisible science that makes a visible (and audible) difference.

We could have gone with “pretty” only.  Instead, we went with performance.

Reflection Energy Analysis

The graph above compares the reflection energy of a standard matt lacquer surface with the NANOX™ Sound Surface across the critical midrange (500–4000 Hz) — the range where vocals, guitars, and most instruments live.

  • Conventional matt lacquer surfaces still produce noticeable peaks and dips, caused by comb filtering when reflections from the desk interfere with the direct signal from the speakers. This results in smeared mids, less accurate imaging, and faster listening fatigue.

  • NANOX™ Sound Surface, by contrast, shows a far flatter and more stable curve. Its proprietary micro-textured finish scatters reflections, reducing their energy before they reach your listening position. The result is cleaner midrange reproduction, more accurate monitoring, and reduced fatigue during long sessions.

In practice, this means what you hear through your monitors is closer to the truth of your mix — without the desk surface adding unwanted coloration.

Available First on FIVE

NANOX™ Sound Surface debuts on the FIVE Founder’s Edition. Only 200 units will ever be made, each carrying this proprietary technology into studios worldwide.

This is more than a finish. It’s the future of studio furniture design.
